Incoming call

You can use the touch sensor on either the left or right unit to perform the following operations. When only one unit of the headset is worn on your ear, operate the headset on the unit that is worn. Tap the touch sensor twice quickly to answer a call.

Play/Pause: Tap the touch sensor. Skip to the beginning of the next track: Tap the touch sensor twice quickly (with an interval of about 0.3 seconds). Skip to the beginning of the previous track (or the current track during playback): Tap the touch sensor 3 times quickly (with an interval of about 0.3 seconds).

Play/Pause: Tap the touch sensor control panel twice quickly (with an interval of about 0.4 seconds). Skip to the beginning of the next track: Swipe forward and release. Use touch control by tapping or swiping the touch surface of either earbud. With touch control, you can play/pause audio, change the volume, perform basic call functions, adjust noise cancellation (noise cancelling earbuds only), and use a Shortcut.

Tap the touch sensor on the left unit to change the settings of the noise canceling function. Each time you tap, the function switches as follows. You will hear the voice guidance say, “Ambient sound”. You will hear the voice guidance say, “Noise canceling”.

Turn on Adaptive Sound

This prevents the system from changing your desired volume. Adaptive Sound will be automatically re-enabled when you enter an environment with a significantly different noise profile. To prevent possible hearing damage, avoid listening at high volume for prolonged periods of time.

Noise Cancelling - This mode reduces the sound surrounding you. It blocks out the sound outside of your earbuds and enhances your listening experience to focus on the audio playing through your speakers. Ambient Sound - This mode does not reduce the sound surrounding you.

Adaptive Sound Control automatically changes the headphones sound settings depending on 4 motion options: sitting, walking, running and transport.

Try going into the "Control Panel" and select "Devices and Printers". Right click on the WH-1000XM4 and select "Properties". In the "Services" tab, check the box next to "Handsfree Telephony". After I got that selected, my microphone worked fine.

Connect the headset to a smartphone/mobile phone via Bluetooth connection. Operate your smartphone or mobile phone to make a call. When you make a call, the dial tone is heard from the headset. If you make a call while you are listening to music, playback pauses.

Check that both the headset and the connected device (i.e., smartphone) are turned on. Turn up the volume of the connected device and the volume of the headset if they are too low. Check the audio settings of the Bluetooth device to make sure the sound comes from the headset during a call.
